Main gate (called Darwaza-i rauza) before entering the main area. The eleven white bulbs on top of the building represent each one year which it took to build Taj Mahal. Each side of the gate has eleven bulbs, representing total 22 years of construction . This building is built in red sandstone compared to Taj Mahal which is built out of white marbel.
Taj Mahal at 07:30 AM, even though there was some people; the atmosphere was very relaxed
The mighty entrance to the tomb of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. The text that can be seen on the side panels of the entrance is calligraphy and made in jasper on white marbel. The higher part of the panels are written in slightly bigger text to reduce the skewing effect when reading from below.
Taj Mahal from below
One of many beautiful inlay work which can be seen all over Taj Mahal. All made by hand between 1631 and 1653 by workers from Persia. Ancestors from the inlay workers still live in Agra and keeps the tradition of doing inlya alive to some extent.
One of the four minarets in one of the corners. They are built by 4 degree tilting angle too the outside. In case of earth quake or damage on the minarets they will fall too the outside and not on the main structure of Taj Mahal.
The garden with the main gate in the background. When Emperor Shah Jahan first came to Agra from Persia he was so amazed by all green items like flowers, grass, plants etc, which he saw in India so he decided to plant alot of grass and roses.
Overall it was a great experience to see Taj Mahal and I got a good guide which could tell me alot of things which I would have missed if I just would have walked by myself. If you have the possibility to come to India, make sure that you plan a visit to Taj Mahal, it will be worth it for sure.
Over and out!
